Brake Repair and Services

Vehicle brakes are one of the most important systems of your vehicle so regular brake repair and maintenance work is essential. To ensure your vehicle's brakes meet performance standards, get your braking system checked by a qualified mechanic at least once a year.

If you experience any of these signs, you should have your brakes checked by our specialist:

  • Your car loses grip when braking

  • Your car pulls to the left or right when braking

  • Your brake pedal is low, hard, soft or spongy

  • Your steering wheel shudders when you brake

  • Your brake screech or squeal

  • Your car takes longer to stop than normal

Mechanics on Grafton offers a comprehensive brake service to ensure that your braking systems are always working at its best, in both safety and performance. Bring your car to our workshop at 13 Grafton St, Waltham, for an inspection and quote.

Brake Pads & Shoes Replacement

Your brake pads/shoes are a vital part of your braking system and they are a part that you should never be overlooked. Brake pads/shoes compress against your brake rotors/drums to create friction and this friction makes your car stop. Which means hard work for your brake pads every time you stop.
The force necessary to halt a moving vehicle is massive and gives off a lot of heat which wears down the brake pads/shoes.

Worn brake pads/shoes means less effective braking which is hazardous to you and others on the road. And so regular examination and testing of the condition of your brake pads/shoes is crucial.

  • Brake pads replacement from $140 per pair

  • Brake shoes replacement from $170  per pair

Brake Rotors & Drums

Brake rotors are large metal discs that are visible behind the wheels of a car. They spin alongside the wheels so that when the brakes are engaged, the brake pads press down on the rotors creating friction to slow down or stop the vehicle. The process of slowing down and stopping generates a great amount of heat and air vents between the middle of the rotor aid in dissipating the heat created by the friction from the rotor and brake pads.

Brake drums forms a friction pair, together with the brake shoes, which decelerates the rotation of the wheel. The brake drums absorb and  discharge the heat generated during braking.

Not changing  brake pads and shoes promptly can lead to scarring the rotor or drum surface and reduction in the performance of the rotor or drum.

  • Brake rotor / drum machining from $92 per pair

  • Brake rotor replacement - from $250 per pair

  • Brake drum replacement - prices vary

Brake Fluid Flushing

Brake fluid is hydraulic fluid that pushes down a piston at the end of the brake line, which in turn pushes the brake pad toward the rotor, slowing or stopping the vehicle depending on the force used.

Over time, the brake fluid degrade and absorb moisture which leads to rust. All this adds up to a brake system with compromised effectiveness and decreased stopping power.

Most automotive professionals agree that glycol-based brake fluid, (DOT 3, DOT 4, DOT 5.1) should be flushed, or changed, every 1–2 years under non-racing conditions. Many manufacturers also require periodic fluid changes to ensure reliability and safety.
